Welcome to the VADEMECUM. Do you wish to understand the development of your child or are you anxious that it is not progressing well? This App can document the development of a child under the conduction of an expert.

The VADEMECUM is a resource oriented procedure for observing children at an early age. It was developed by Dr. Ines Schlienger at the Zurich University and was tested in a study by the Swiss National Fund.

When used by experienced specialists, the VADEMECUM is an easy-to-use instrument for early recognition of retarded development or for accompanying observation of development. It offers an overall view of all aspects of motoric, cognitive, communicative, social and emotional development of a child from birth till approximately the fourth year.

The child will be observed by the parents or a person close to him according to the lists in the Apps. Parents and expert will work together to interpret these observations.

This App may be downloaded on cell phones, iPhones or tablets free of charge. The access data will only be released by an expert. More information is available under: www.vademecum-digital.ch.

What can parents do who are interested in the VADEMECUM?

Step 1

To use this App, contact someone you trust: eg. childrens doctor, specialist in Early Education, Child nurse (Mütterberatung). If this person is not acquainted with the VADEMECUM, you can inform him of the advantages of this instrument.

Step 2

When the expert you are working with uses the VADEMECUM you receive the login data in your App and can begin monitoring the childs development immediately. You will then personally make note of the childs development in everyday situations. The VADEMECUM App contains many statements on childrens abilities that can be assessed by observation. These points of observation are ranged in five development areas, set out chronologically and easily understandable.

Step 3

Your expert will evaluate and interpret the observations. The evaluation will be discussed together and further measures can be planned.
